Doctor Seaweed has previously blogged about the health benefits of seaweed, and particularly as a natural and rich source of iodine.
We are aware that this sea vegetable may seem unusual to some people still, and not everybody knows how to make seaweed part of your everyday meals. However, in the long run, you can be sure that your experiment with a sea vegetable will be delicious. Therefore, Seaweed & Co not only supplies, but also accredits supply, and will advise you on to best ways to easily and conveniently use seaweed in food manufacturing, and use in the home.
Some general uses have been summerised here:
- Try nori sheet instead of bread. It’s healthy, savoury and umami (According to the Umami Information Centre seaweed has one of the richest concentration of umami taste)
- Boost your smoothie with just a small addition of Hebridean Seaweed. Just 2 grams means +103 % calcium, + 215% of Iron and +35600% iodine (Not a typo! And allows EU Approved Health Claims)
- You have a ”salty tooth”? Seaweed chips may be the solution. It satisfies your taste preferences, may make you feel fuller for longer in comparison with junk snacks and nurtures your body with minerals, vitamins and antioxidants at the same time!
- If you are looking forward to baking something, don’t forget to add seaweed to your usual recipe to give your favourite dish a richer flavour. Try out seaweed scones, we’ll leave the recipe here so that you can always come back and read it again: http://gastrogays.com/seaweed-scones/
- There is always a place and time for a sea-cocktail, beer or gin! Interestingly, all these three beverages seem to be increasingly containing ”the food of the future.” Could this make you a healthy drunk!
- You can add algae as a topping or main ingredient to your salads! You can be creative here. Just a small clue: can be used instead of croutons, because it is crispy too!
- Seaweed Spaghetti! By the way, you can now find it in Tesco. You can boil, steam and fry and most significantly, enjoy them!
