Furthermore, we test every batch using unique DNA Authentication in independent accredited laboratories, so you know you are getting exactly what we say it is!

the importance of iodine

Seaweed is naturally rich in iodine, an essential mineral that the body needs to make thyroid hormones. These hormones control the body’s metabolism and many other important functions. The body also needs thyroid hormones for brain development during pregnancy and infancy.

Research indicates that our seaweed releases iodine more slowly, with longer retention in the body as compared to artificial sources (potassium iodide) often used in tablets and other supplementation.
This was demonstrated in independent clinical trials.

sEAWEED could address iodine insufficiencies

Recent research shows the UK is one of just two high-income countries with iodine deficiency issues, and has a worse rate than developing countries such as South Sudan. Our seaweed releases iodine more slowly, with longer retention in the body as compared to artificial sources (potassium iodide) often used in other supplementation. This was demonstrated in independent clinical trials.

  • 66% of women have a diet insufficient in iodine
  • 76% of school-aged girls have a diet insufficient in iodine
  • 100% of our seaweed is measured for its iodine levels

We are passionate about the quality of our products and test every batch of our seaweed in independent UKAS accredited laboratories for iodine levels.
Our very own Dr Craig Rose contributed to research focusing on the different iodine contents between seaweed products.

We specifically select sustainable seaweed species that are well suited to providing a natural iodine source.
