A new study from the Journal of the American Heart Association is further proof of the fact that sodium increases the chance of high blood pressure.
Luckily, seaweed can be a great and nutritious alternative!
Recent findings demonstrate a close connection between salt and high blood pressure.
According to the NHS, high blood pressure often doesn’t have any noticeable symptoms and that is why it can be dangerous and can be referred to as‘a silent killer’.
A normal blood pressure is usually 130(systolic)/80(diastolic) and anything higher can be called hypertension, which can result in heart attacks and strokes.
Worryingly, there is as much as 30% of British people who are at risk of hypertension.
However, there is something you can do right now to avoid taking any risks – reduce daily sodium intake and maintain a healthy diet.
There were 4,000 people who participated in a recent experiment published in Journal of the American Heart Association. They were equally divided into two groups, then, members of the first group had to consume a certain amount sodium during the study, while the other ate food with different kinds of salt replacement supplements.
The comparison of these two groups has shown that consuming too much salt may easily increase a possibility of high blood pressure according to participants’ health tests results.
Several studies, and commercial applications in a wide range of foods has shown that seaweed can replace salt. Whether you add seaweed ingredients to replace salt in pastry, soup, sauces, meats or cheeses, seaweed can enhance natural flavours due to levels of glumates that have an umami effect, and so require less salt. In fact, a gram of seaweed contains over 10 times less sodium than a gram of salt, and which gives as good as or better taste in certain foods. The striking thing about adding a small amount of this nutritious ”food of the future” is the fact that at the same time you are adding vitamins, minerals and antioxidants as a bonus!
There are different markets and different requirements, so Seaweed & Co. advises on incorporating seaweed to your products, whatever they are!
